Mrs. Florence B. Ragland, 84, died Friday, February 13, 2009, at Crossgates River Oaks Hospital in Brandon.
The funeral service is at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, February 21, 2009, at Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church, in Brandon, followed by burial at Dean's Paradise Garden (Brandon). Visitation is today from 1-7 p.m. at Lakeover Funeral Home in Jackson, MS.
Mrs. Ragland was the first of fourteen children, born to Reuben and Catherine Lonie Brown of Rankin County, MS. She married Major Ragland in 1938 and later became a loving, caring and inspirational mother to ten children.
She and her family moved to Chicago in the early 1950's. After 35 years in Chicago and retiring from 20 years-employment with Oscar Mayer Co., she later returned to her native Pearl, MS, where she gave of herself in helping to care for the sick and shut-ins.
To her seven surviving children, she leaves the instilled "life principles" of self-determination and self-responsibility. Her passion was "doing God's work" and inspiring others to reach beyond their self-imposed limitations
